Downham Football Project

Downham Football Project

Sports Fun 4 All were successful in receiving funding from the Downham Assembly to run the Downham Football Project, a social inclusion programme for young people aged 6 – 18 providing positive diversionary activity for the young people in the local and surrounding areas using football as the tool to engage them. It ran for 15 weeks and delivered a total of 30 hours of football activity.

Two of our players talk about the sessions

A player talks about what he’s enjoyed in the sessions

Our coaches used a mixture of sports qualifications and youth work skills to engage the YP. The sessions were designed to act as a deterrent to the young people getting involved in anti-social
behaviour. The outreach focused on engaging with these young people to encourage them to participate in the sessions.

Due to the success of the DFP we decided to keep the session going and in January 2017 started the Friday Night Development Centre. We were able to successfully retain half of the participants. They are now attending and paying for the sessions which shows they value the service we are delivering.
